UK needs Basic Internet First, High Speed Broadband can wait

High amount of Internet usage pattern is being seen in UK currently. This has led to rise in the number of Internet providers in the nation. Most of them promising speed of 100Mbps and above. However some feel providing Internet access to remote areas is more important than high speed net.

Analysts feel there is a need of guidelines that focus on having sufficient broadband speed in remote areas too. They think government should make sure maximum areas are under the reach of Internet first and later plan about super fast broadband speed. Access to a 2Mbps connection in the remote areas will help in supporting small businesses and in return help the British economy grow.

The UK government has set out a proposal to offer 2Mbps broadband to every UK resident by 2012 in the Digital Economy Act. In reality 2.5 million homes do not get 2Mbps or above speed, rural areas being a majority.

BT and Virgin Media have already started rolling out fiber networks across the UK but they say these would not reach some parts of UK. This would leave many Britons without 2Mbps internet access. The government has not yet disclosed how it intends to pay the money that will be spent in the process. Labor party had plans to impose the broadband tax and generate money for payment of the fiber networks but due to conservative party’s heavy opposition the tax was scrapped.

The government’s plan to make high speed available to entire UK would no way a 100% success as BT told before they would be able to cover 40% of UK only. Instead of high speed the government can think of ways to provide basic Internet facilities to the remote areas.

Sharp To Launch 3D Cameras For Cell Phones Soon

Sharp recently announced its foray into the 3D camera market specifically for cell phones.

The world is familiar with digital TV sets, channels and now Sharp has given yet another reason for the 3D industry to grow and captivate its fan, the 3D camera. The mobile makers have tried to load their mobiles with latest technology so why should they lag behind in 3D innovation.

Sharp plans to launch this tiny 720p 3D camera soon and it will capture moving as well as still high resolution 3D images. The camera is very small in size and will easily fit in the space meant for cameras in mobile phones. Technologies like colour synchronising processing and fast readout help the tiny camera produce images. A lot of complicated and high density technology has gone in the making of the tiny camera.

The company said it will start mass production of the 3D cameras by the end of this year. Sharp is also in charge for producing 3D screens for Nintendo 3DS. They also plan to come up with more 3D devices throughout the year.

Looks like Sharp is taking the 3D business seriously and looking at the number of people interested in this technology the company can expect great gains.
